Courses
The EuDARe Jean Monnet Chair set out three teaching commitments: a new course on comparative politics in the Bachelor’s degree in History, Politics and International Relations; a new advanced course on comparative European politics in the Master’s programme in Global Politics and Euro-Mediterranean Relations (GLOPEM); and the redesign of the course on research design and methods, which was reserved to students of the Master’s in Data Science and is now open to political science students.
Prof. Carammia teaches the three courses at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Catania. The two Master’s courses are in English, the Bachelor’s course in Italian. The courses combine lectures with practical work. Students build and present websites, lead structured debates, analyse data in laboratories, participate in simulations, and present their research projects in dedicated workshops. Some seminars of the EuDARe seminar series are held inside the courses.
The courses are attended by students from many backgrounds. A large share of the GLOPEM students are international students. Exchange students, mostly on Erasmus, attend all EuDARe courses. Students from other programmes of the University of Catania take the research design course: above all students of the Master’s in Data Science, and in 2026-27 also students of the Master’s in International Relations and of the Bachelor’s in History, Politics and International Relations. In 2023-24 the research design course was also open, online, to students of the partner universities of the EUNICE European university alliance, to which the University of Catania belongs.
Politica comparata
Comparative Politics. Bachelor’s degree in History, Politics and International Relations (L-36), third year, 6 ECTS, in Italian. Taught under the Chair since 2024-25. In the second part of the course each attending student presents one country from a website built during the course.
Research Design and Data Analysis in Political Science
GLOPEM Master’s, second year, and the Master’s in Data Science, 6 ECTS, in English. Redesigned under the Chair in 2023-24. Each student develops a research design proposal over the term, presented in three workshops, with causal diagrams and data analysis in R.
The websites that students build in the two comparative politics courses are listed on the student websites page.
