Democracy in the Crossfire: The War and the Transformation of Public Opinion in Israel
The second seminar by Prof. Amnon Cavari (Reichman University) for the Jean Monnet Chair Challenges to Democracy and Representation in the EU (EuDARe), in Aula XXI Marzo, Palazzo Pedagaggi.
Prof. Cavari examined how the conflict that followed the events of 7 October 2023 reshaped public opinion in Israel and attitudes toward democracy, liberalism, and civil rights, building on the institutional analysis of the previous day’s seminar. Drawing on recent survey research, he discussed changes in attitudes toward minority rights, civil liberties, and institutional trust, and what a prolonged conflict means for democratic culture and for the resilience of liberal values in a polarised society.
