A seminar of the Jean Monnet Chair Challenges to Democracy and Representation in the EU (EuDARe), coordinated by Prof. Marcello Carammia, organised jointly with the CRIDEM project (Crisi della democrazia, crisi nella democrazia, PIA.CE.RI 2024–2026), in the first-floor meeting room of Palazzo Pedagaggi.

Prof. Miklós Sebők, Research Professor at the Department of Government and Public Policy of the ELTE Centre for Social Sciences in Budapest, presented studies of democracy in Hungary based on artificial intelligence applied to text analysis: how judgments of COVID vaccines changed over time in the Hungarian media, and the diffusion of illiberal policy frames in parliamentary debates on immigration and the pandemic. The two case studies showed how political narratives can be analysed with AI-supported methods, and the opportunities and the difficulties that computational social science brings to the study of democracy and authoritarianism.

The seminar was held in English, with Italian subtitles available.
