Democrazia sotto pressione. Rappresentanza politica, partiti e leadership tra crisi e trasformazione
A roundtable organised by the International Relations course of the degree programme in Storia, Politica e Relazioni Internazionali together with the Jean Monnet Chair Challenges to Democracy and Representation in the EU (EuDARe), in Aula XXI Marzo, Palazzo Pedagaggi.
Speakers: Nicolò Conti (Unitelma Sapienza), Iole Fontana (University of Catania), Fabio García Lupato (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), Christophe Roux (Université de Montpellier), Filippo Tronconi (Università di Bologna), and Luca Verzichelli (Università di Siena).
The discussion covered the transformation of political parties, the role of political elites, the rise of populism and of radical right parties, institutional change in France and Spain, European foreign policy, migration and security, and the effects of globalisation and international crises on democratic systems. A recurring theme was the tension between democratic values, political fragmentation, and the growing demand for accountability.
Introduced by Francesca Longo and Stefania Panebianco, chairs of International Relations. Moderated by Marcello Carammia, Jean Monnet Chair EuDARe. After the round table the Lab’s interns recorded short interviews with the speakers.
