A seminar of the Jean Monnet Chair Challenges to Democracy and Representation in the EU (EuDARe), coordinated by Prof. Marcello Carammia, in the aula magna of Palazzo Pedagaggi.

Prof. Sean M. Theriault, Distinguished Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, analysed the papacy of Pope Francis in comparative perspective, showing how it differed from his predecessors’ in policies, personnel promoted, and pilgrimages undertaken. The presentation drew on ongoing research using the tools of political science to analyse the world’s oldest political institution, and discussed what the case shows about leadership, institutional change, and religious authority.

Introduced by Pinella Di Gregorio, Director of the DSPS. Moderated by Marcello Carammia and Danilo Di Mauro (DSPS). The seminar was held in English, with Italian subtitles available.
