Institutions Under Pressure: The Structure and Challenges of Israeli Democracy
A seminar of the Jean Monnet Chair Challenges to Democracy and Representation in the EU (EuDARe), coordinated by Prof. Marcello Carammia, in Aula XXI Marzo, Palazzo Pedagaggi.
Prof. Amnon Cavari (PhD, University of Wisconsin–Madison), Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Liberty and Responsibility at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, Reichman University, analysed the institutional foundations of Israeli democracy and the pressures straining them – examining the political system, coalition dynamics, and the recent tensions between majoritarian government, judicial independence, and civil liberties. The seminar was the first of two: the second, the next day, turned to public opinion and democratic attitudes during the war.
The seminar was held in English, with Italian subtitles available. A recording is kept in the Chair’s archive.
